God, Family, Health: Prioritizing What Truly Matters in Life and Healthcare

God. Family. Health.

The top three priorities I wrote down.

In an exercise for a coaching class through the Cleveland Clinic that I took with other doctors, we had to write down our top ten values. These were my top three and they came easily.

Filling in the rest was more challenging but happened quickly once I got started. Others were: home, boundaries, honesty.

Then we had to cross off three of the ten.

Then another four.

We were left with just three values.

God. Family. Health.

To me it was simple. Without these, nothing else matters. From them, everything else flows.

The amazing thing was: these weren't just mine.

Other doctors shared their top three values and they were identical.

In a healthcare world that asks us to be secular yet human, empathetic but unemotional, some of us still boil down our values to three things: God, family, health.

If these values resonate with you, consider joining our Practice With Purpose Community. Connect with other parents and professionals who prioritize faith, family, and health. Together, we share guidance, encouragement, and strategies for living a values-driven life.

If everything else went away, we’d remain filled with those.

It wasn't just an exercise in a coaching class. It's the truth, the way I live and the way I practice.

It’s not that my medical practice involves spoken prayer. It's that my faith informs my values.

My values inform the care I deliver to be honest, holistic, and helpful.

Faith informs this work as a vocation of helping others to the best of my ability, quality care over quantity of patients, and despite my expertise, my faith reminds me that health starts at home and my family is prioritized.

At Countryside Women's Health, faith is part of health. Relationship and connection are part of delivering healthcare and our homes and lifestyles are the basis for well-being.

If God, family, and health are also your top three values, you're in the right place.
